Builder Details
ICE District is located in the heart of downtown Edmonton, one of the fastest growing cities in Canada. It’s a 25-acre development combining condos, a public plaza, sports, entertainment, a chic hotel, 208,000 square feet of retail space and 1.3 million square feet of office space all in one location. It’s much more than a state-of-the-art arena. It’s a place to gather. A place to celebrate. A place where you – and our city – are always at your best!
The Vision
ICE District is Edmonton’s potential brought to life. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop 25+ acres in the heart of a modern metropolis. The creation of one of Canada’s largest multi-use projects all in one location. It’s a living, urban district that is drawing people from all corners of the city, the country and the world. ICE District started with Daryl Katz and a vision. Katz Group partnered with the City of Edmonton to build Rogers Place Arena, the catalyst for ICE District. In 2012, Katz Group then joined forces with ONE Properties to create ICE District Properties, the vibrant mixed-use development surrounding the arena. Through their partnership, Katz Group and ONE Properties are bringing Edmontonians together and attracting visitors to a city that’s truly world class.
History
Daryl Katz purchased the Edmonton Oilers in 2008, and brought with him the vision of what a downtown arena district could do to revitalize his hometown. With the arena deal in place between the Katz Group and City of Edmonton, the then-called Edmonton Arena District (EAD) began to take shape as office towers, condos, a public plaza, hotel and plethora of entertainment options were announced. Rogers Place opened in 2016, heralding a new era of activity and excitement in Edmonton’s downtown. In 2017 Edmonton Tower opened its doors. In 2019 Stantec Tower and the JW Marriott Hotel opened, connecting ICE District to the rest of downtown via Edmontonton’s expansive indoor pedway system, and later that year the concrete was poured on the ICE plaza skating rink. In 2020 the Legends Residences and Sky Residences opened, and construction commenced on Block B-G on the west side of ICE Plaza – which will anchored by a Loblaws CityMarket grocery store and feature a host of dining establishments and other exciting retail.
As envisioned over a decade ago, ICE District is truly becoming a beacon for residents, capital investment, business and tourists by offering a place where people can live, work, stay and play all in the heart of our city.
